A Different Approach to Fishmeal Groundbait

Gold Medal Green Swim Fishmeal Mix combines high-protein fishmeal with green betaine to produce a distinctive groundbait suitable for a wide range of coarse fishing situations.

Green fishmeal-based mixtures have become increasingly popular among commercial fishery anglers, particularly those targeting carp and bream.

They are also being used on natural venues, where anglers are experimenting with fishmeal-based groundbaits for a variety of coarse fish.

Green Swim can be used on its own, mixed with breadcrumb to increase the quantity, or prepared for feeder fishing.

What Makes Green Swim Different?

  • High-protein fishmeal: A widely used ingredient in modern coarse fishing groundbaits.
  • Green betaine: Adds a distinctive component to the formulation.
  • Green appearance: Gives the mixture its characteristic colour.
  • Commercial fishery use: Particularly suited to anglers targeting carp and bream.
  • Natural waters: Can also be tried on rivers, canals and stillwaters.
  • Flexible preparation: Suitable for feeding as small balls or preparing for feeder fishing.
  • Can be bulked out: Mix with breadcrumb when a larger quantity of groundbait is required.

A Popular Choice for Carp and Bream

Fishmeal-based groundbaits have become a familiar part of modern commercial fishery angling.

Green Swim combines that established ingredient with betaine, creating an alternative to conventional brown or dark fishmeal mixtures.

Its main target species include:

  • Carp: Particularly on commercial fisheries where fishmeal-based feed is widely used.
  • Bream: Suitable for experimenting with on both commercial and natural waters.
  • Skimmers: Useful when targeting smaller bream and mixed catches.
  • Other coarse fish: Can also be used where several species are feeding in the same swim.

The mixture has become a popular addition to the Gold Medal range and offers anglers another option when conventional groundbaits are not producing the results they want.

How to Prepare Green Swim Fishmeal

  1. Place the groundbait in a bowl: Start with the quantity you expect to use during your session.
  2. Add water gradually: Introduce small amounts while mixing thoroughly by hand.
  3. Check the consistency: Aim for a soft mixture that holds together when squeezed.
  4. Add your chosen feed: If required, incorporate suitable hook bait or loose-feed particles into the prepared mixture.
  5. Form small balls: Make golf-ball-sized portions ready to introduce into your swim.
  6. Adjust for feeder fishing: If using a feeder, prepare the mixture so it holds during casting but releases when submerged.

CHAMPION’S TIP: Green Swim can also be mixed with breadcrumb when you want to increase the quantity of groundbait. Start with a small amount of breadcrumb and experiment with the proportions until you achieve the texture and feeding action you require.

Where to Use Green Swim Fishmeal

  • Commercial fisheries: Particularly when targeting carp, bream and skimmers.
  • Natural stillwaters: An alternative fishmeal mixture for bream and mixed coarse fishing.
  • Feeder fishing: Can be prepared to release groundbait around the hook bait.
  • Pole fishing: Suitable for feeding small groundbait balls accurately into a swim.
  • Mixed-species venues: Worth experimenting with when several species are present.

As with all groundbait, adjust your feeding rate and consistency according to the venue, water temperature and fish activity.
