Gold Medal Hemp Seed for coarse fishing

One of Coarse Fishing’s Traditional Baits

Gold Medal Hemp Seed is a natural particle bait suitable for anglers targeting roach, carp, tench, bream and other coarse fish.

Hemp has been used by generations of anglers because its small size makes it particularly useful for introducing numerous food particles into a swim without relying on large quantities of bulky groundbait.

Our hemp seed is sourced from China and packed in the United Kingdom. It is supplied uncooked in convenient 600 g bags, ready for anglers to prepare before fishing.

Each order contains five 600 g bags — 3 kg in total.

Why Use Hemp Seed?

  • Natural particle bait: A traditional choice for coarse fishing.
  • Small seed size: Allows anglers to introduce numerous individual food particles.
  • Versatile: Suitable for rivers, canals, lakes and commercial fisheries.
  • Ideal for loose feeding: Can be introduced in small quantities to encourage fish to feed in a particular area.
  • Useful with groundbait: Prepared hemp can be added to compatible groundbait mixes.
  • Convenient packaging: Five separate 600 g bags allow anglers to prepare quantities as required.

Which Fish Can You Target with Hemp?

Properly prepared hemp is widely used when fishing for:

  • Roach: Particularly in rivers and canals where hemp fishing is a well-established technique.
  • Carp: Useful as part of a prepared particle feeding approach.
  • Tench: A traditional species to target with hemp and other particles.
  • Bream: Can be included in a loose-feed or groundbait approach.
  • Other coarse fish: Suitable for experimenting with wherever particle feeding is permitted.

How to Prepare Hemp Seed

IMPORTANT: This hemp is supplied uncooked and must be properly prepared before use.

  1. Measure out the hemp: Use the quantity you need and place it in a suitable saucepan or heatproof container.
  2. Rinse thoroughly: Wash the seeds with clean water.
  3. Soak overnight: Cover the seeds generously with water and leave them to soak.
  4. Bring to the boil: Transfer the soaked seeds and water to a suitable saucepan and bring to a full boil.
  5. Simmer until ready: Continue cooking until the seeds begin to split and the small white shoots become visible.
  6. Allow to cool: Leave the prepared hemp to cool before packing it into suitable containers for your fishing trip.

Ensure the seeds are thoroughly cooked and properly split before feeding them to fish. Cooking time will vary according to the seed and soaking conditions.

CHAMPION’S TIP: Don’t throw away the liquid left after cooking your hemp. Once cooled, it can be useful for moistening compatible groundbait mixtures, adding some of the natural character of the prepared hemp.

How to Use Prepared Hemp

There are several ways to introduce hemp into your fishing:

  • Loose feeding: Introduce small quantities of prepared hemp into your swim.
  • Pole fishing: Use a pole cup to deliver hemp accurately.
  • River fishing: Feed according to the flow and the feeding response of the fish.
  • Groundbait additions: Mix prepared hemp into suitable groundbait before introducing it into your swim.
  • Particle feeding: Combine with other properly prepared and permitted particles when targeting carp and tench.

Always check the fishery rules before using particle baits, as some venues restrict their use.
