Gold Medal Lake Mix groundbait

A Special Groundbait for Stillwater Fishing

Gold Medal Lake Mix is a carefully developed light groundbait designed specifically for stillwaters.

Made from a balanced combination of breadcrumb, biscuit, corn, coconut and aniseed, the mixture is particularly suitable for anglers targeting roach, skimmers, bream, tench and carp.

Unlike heavier groundbaits designed to settle quickly on the bottom, Lake Mix can be prepared to release a gentle cloud of attractive particles as it breaks apart in the water.

This makes it especially useful when fish are feeding at different depths rather than concentrating entirely on the lakebed.

A Carefully Balanced Blend

Lake Mix combines five traditional groundbait ingredients:

  • Breadcrumb: Forms the main groundbait base and helps provide a familiar food ingredient.
  • Biscuit: Adds texture and additional attractive food particles.
  • Corn: Contributes to the food content of the mixture.
  • Coconut: Helps provide a light texture and fine particles.
  • Aniseed: Adds a distinctive sweet, aromatic scent.

The combination produces a light groundbait with a musky-sweet aroma, designed for a controlled release of particles through the water.

A Slow-Sinking Cloud of Attraction

One of the most useful features of Gold Medal Lake Mix is the way it can release fine particles into the water.

When mixed to the correct consistency, small balls of groundbait begin breaking apart and releasing a cloud of food particles.

Some particles sink more slowly than others, helping to create feeding activity at different depths.

This is particularly useful when fishing for roach and skimmers that may be taking bait as it falls through the water.

It’s an ideal groundbait to experiment with when fishing on the drop.

Which Fish Can You Target?

  • Roach: Particularly when fishing with a waggler or pole and loose feeding regularly.
  • Skimmers: Useful when targeting fish feeding at different depths.
  • Bream: Suitable for building a feeding area on stillwaters.
  • Tench: Can be used when targeting tench in lakes and ponds.
  • Carp: Another option for mixed commercial and natural stillwaters.

The most effective feeding approach will depend on the depth, water temperature and activity of the fish.

How to Prepare Lake Mix

  1. Place the dry groundbait in a bowl: Start with the quantity you need for your session.
  2. Add water gradually: Introduce small amounts while mixing thoroughly.
  3. Blend the mixture: Use the palm of your hand or a suitable drill whisk to distribute the moisture evenly.
  4. Check the consistency: Mix until the groundbait binds together sufficiently to form small balls.
  5. Prepare your feed: Form small balls ready to introduce into the swim.
  6. Adjust as necessary: Experiment with the moisture content to achieve the breakdown and sinking action required.

CHAMPION’S TIP: When fishing on the drop, try preparing the groundbait so that small balls begin breaking apart relatively quickly. This can help create a gentle cloud of particles that encourages fish to feed as your hook bait sinks through the swim.

Ideal for Waggler and Pole Fishing

Lake Mix is particularly suitable for stillwater anglers who want to create an attractive feeding area without relying entirely on heavy bottom-feeding groundbait.

  • Waggler fishing: Useful when presenting hook baits through the water column.
  • Pole fishing: Small groundbait balls can be introduced accurately into a chosen swim.
  • Fishing on the drop: The light particles can help attract fish feeding above the bottom.
  • Natural lakes: Suitable for roach, bream, skimmers and other coarse fish.
  • Commercial stillwaters: Can be used when targeting mixed coarse fish.

Regular feeding in small amounts can be worth experimenting with, particularly when fish are actively taking bait on the drop.
