How Does Exploding Feeder Mix Work?

The idea behind this groundbait is straightforward: the mixture should hold together long enough to be cast accurately, then begin breaking down once it reaches the water.

1. Load your feeder: Press the prepared mixture into a cage or open-ended feeder.
2. Cast into your chosen swim: The groundbait is carried to your feeding area.
3. The mixture begins to break apart: Water enters the feeder, allowing the active ingredients to release food particles.
4. A feeding area develops: The dispersed particles settle and spread around the feeder and hook bait.
5. Repeat as necessary: Regular casting can help maintain a feeding area, depending on the fish and conditions.

Unlike a heavily compacted groundbait that may remain inside the feeder, Exploding Feeder Mix is intended to release its contents more readily when mixed correctly.

How to Prepare Exploding Feeder Mix

1. Place the dry mix in a bowl: Start with the quantity you need for your session.
2. Add water gradually: Introduce small amounts while mixing thoroughly by hand.
3. Keep the mixture fairly dry: Aim for a damp, slightly dry-feeling consistency rather than a wet, sticky groundbait.
4. Test the binding: The mixture should hold together when pressed into the feeder but begin breaking apart when submerged.
5. Load and cast: Fill your feeder, cast to your chosen area and allow the groundbait to disperse around the hook bait.

CHAMPION’S TIP: The amount of water is particularly important with an active feeder mix. Too much water can make the groundbait bind too firmly and reduce the release of particles. Start slightly dry and add more moisture only when necessary.

Feeder fishing has become an increasingly important part of competitive coarse fishing, with major events such as the World Feeder Championships and Feeder Masters demonstrating the effectiveness of modern feeder techniques.

Drawing on my years of match fishing experience, I developed Exploding Feeder Mix with the aim of combining natural food ingredients, scent and active particle movement.

During my own testing, the mixture has helped produce some excellent bags of fish.

I wanted a groundbait that could be packed into a feeder but would then release its contents effectively once in the water.
