Gold Medal Fishmeal Mix is a carefully developed groundbait that combines fishmeal with a complementary base mixture.
Fishmeal-based groundbaits have become extremely popular, particularly on commercial fisheries where fish are regularly fed fishmeal pellets.
However, during my own match fishing career, I’ve learned that simply adding more and more fishmeal doesn’t necessarily produce better results.
In fact, I’ve found that too much fish extract can sometimes work against you, making it harder to build the substantial weights needed in competitive fishing.
That’s why I spent considerable time experimenting with the balance between fishmeal and the other ingredients in the mixture.
What My Match Fishing Experience Taught Me
Many commercial fisheries introduce young fish to fishmeal-based pellets during their early development.
As those fish grow, fishmeal remains a familiar food source, which helps explain why fishmeal groundbaits have become so widely used.
But my experience has shown me that the proportion of fishmeal in a groundbait can be just as important as the ingredient itself.
After extensive experimentation, I developed a mixture with what I consider to be the right balance of fishmeal and base ingredients.
The results have been extremely encouraging, with the mixture producing some excellent bags of fish during my own testing and fishing sessions.
My philosophy is simple: it’s not always how much attractant you use, but how effectively you use it.

How to Prepare Fishmeal Mix

- Check the consistency: Continue mixing until the groundbait is firm enough to form small balls.
- Riddle the mixture: Pass the prepared groundbait through a suitable sieve to remove lumps and produce a light, even texture.
- Feed your swim: Introduce suitable-sized balls and adjust the amount according to fish activity and conditions.
CHAMPION’S TIP: Don’t automatically assume that a stronger fishmeal concentration will produce more fish. A balanced mixture and careful feeding can be far more effective than simply increasing the quantity of attractant.
