Goldmedal Groundbaits — Oily Seed Mix
The Oily Seed Mix is a special nut and seed–based groundbait designed to create a unique effervescent action in the water — a proven way to attract Roach, Chub, Dace, Carp, and other coarse fish.
This mix can be used on its own or as a powerful additive to other groundbaits. When introduced into the water, it releases tiny oily particles that rise and fall continuously, imitating natural feed and stimulating fish to investigate and feed without overfilling their stomachs.
Development & Formulation
This mix was inspired by my time fishing with the Waterqueen Match Group in France during the 1980s, where continental anglers were already using special effervescent groundbaits to dominate world championship events. Their nut- and hemp-based mixes created a lively, oily cloud in the water that pulled shoals of Roach and other species into the swim after heavy balling in.
I adapted and developed my own version for UK waters — using crushed nuts, hemp, and a low cereal base to keep fish feeding confidently for longer. Over the years, this mix has helped me and others build big Roach catches, especially when switching to hemp on the hook once the swim is alive.
How to Use

Add small amounts of water until the mix holds together when squeezed.

Form into golf ball–sized balls and cup or throw into the swim.

Can be used on its own, mixed with other groundbaits, or loaded into a swimfeeder or method feeder for extra activity.
